ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — The Minnesota State Colleges and University system has reached an agreement its officials say will allow it to stay open during a possible government shutdown that could start July 1.

Scott Thiss is chairman of MnSCU's (MINN-skews) board of trustees. He says the system will hire the state to continuing handling the system's finances during any shut down.

Thiss says the system has enough money to stay open, but it wasn't clear if it would be able to access its money if the state financial system went dark. If it couldn't, MnSCU might have had shut down itself.

Thiss says now that Gov. Mark Dayton has formally requested a court to keep those financial systems operating in a shutdown, MnSCU is confident it can keep its doors open.
