Starting tonight at 6 and 10 p.m., Molly Thorvilson will join veteran broadcaster Charley Johnson at the anchor desk.
She joins the WDAZ News team after anchoring, producing and reporting for a newscast in southern Iowa.
Thorvilson says she couldn’t be more excited for her journey to North Dakota. “I feel very fortunate to be working with such a great group of people,” she said. “Grand Forks is a perfect fit for me and everyone is so friendly and welcoming.”
Born and raised in Plymouth, Minnesota, Thorvilson is a Midwest girl at heart. She began her broadcast career at a young age in eastern Iowa. Molly covered many major stories in Cedar Rapids, Iowa at KGAN/KFXA including and the epic Floods of 2008, the Iowa Caucuses, and the race to the White House.
WDAZ News Director Chris Regimbal says Thorvilson brings a wealth of talent and enthusiasm to the newsroom. “I think viewers are going to love her down-to-Earth style,” he said. “Pairing Molly with veteran news anchor Charley Johnson is a natural fit that our audience will quickly embrace.”
Thorvilson is a graduate from the University of Iowa with a degree in Journalism. She also studied through Boston University in London, where she interned in the CNBC Europe newsroom. Although she is a Hawkeye, Thorvilson says she is extremely excited to follow Fighting Sioux hockey and hopes to go to a few NHL games in Winnipeg.
Thorvilson was an award-winning reporter in Iowa, honored by the Iowa Broadcast News Association and the Iowa Motion Picture Association.
