BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — The commander of North Dakota's National Guard estimates it will cost $90 million or more to repair damage to public works from the state's spring and summer flooding.
Maj. Gen. David Sprynczynatyk (SPRIN'-suh-NAH'-tik) spoke Tuesday to the Legislature's interim Budget Section committee.
The panel includes members of the budget-writing committees in the North Dakota House and Senate.
Sprynczynatyk says the federal government will pick up three-quarters of the bill. If the damage estimate goes over $100 million, the federal government will pay 90 percent of the disaster expenses.
Sprynczynatyk says final damage numbers won't be known for a while because of a looming flood disaster in Minot, and ongoing flooding along the Missouri River.
The flooding has damaged public facilities in Bismarck and Mandan as well as private property.
