The University of North Dakota's student-built Ag Cam captured photos of the flooded Souris River from space.

The photo you on top was taken last year by a U.S. Geological Survey spacecraft. The Souris is the thin black line.

The photo on the bottom was taken just after 7:40 p.m. last Friday. It shows the swollen Souris River filling the valley upstream, and sending water down through the heart of the city.

The camera was designed, built and is operated by students and faculty at UND.

“We are still learning the sensor’s capabilities and are not yet ready for routine operations, but we wanted to see if there was any way ISSAC could be of use to the various flood fights going on across the state,” said Doug Olsen, Project Manager for ISSAC at UND.
