A farmhouse north of Larimore, ND, exploded Monday night at about 7:45 p.m. sending debris flying 40 to 50 yards away.

Grand Forks County Sheriff Bob Rost told KNOX radio that a child died in the explosion. Two adults were injured, a male and female. Rost says the man has been taken to a Twin Cities burn center. The woman remains hospitalized at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks with unknown injuries.

The identities of the three have not yet been released.

Witnesses say the three were in the home just east of McCanna, ND, at the time of the explosion, the sound from which could be heard miles away, with one witness likening it to a sonic boom.

Debris from the explosion could be seen strewn across the yard and the home's structure was nearly unrecognizable. A car sat in what is left of the home's garage and debris stretched out toward a swingset in the home's yard.

Grand Forks County Sheriff's Department investigator Steve Hamre was on scene and said that the cause of the explosion is not yet known, but that propane had been delivered earlier in the day.

The house is eight miles north and two miles west of Larimore.
