Minot's Broadway Reopens to Rush Hour Traffic

The main north-south artery in flooded Minot has reopened to traffic on a limited basis.

MINOT, N.D. (AP) — The main north-south artery in flooded Minot has reopened to traffic on a limited basis.

Mayor Curt Zimbelman says Broadway will open each day for rush hour, from 7-10 a.m. and from 4-7 p.m. The reopening of one lane for traffic in each direction is subject to the dike that is holding back Souris River floodwaters remaining in good shape.

No bikes or pedestrians are allowed, and Zimbelman says the city is still asking residents not to travel unless necessary, to reduce traffic jams.

National Guard Lt. Col. Rick Smith says for the most part traffic moved smoothly early Thursday, though southbound vehicles were experiencing short delays. He says the opening of Broadway appears to have relieved some of the congestion on the U.S. Highway 83 Bypass.
