Minneapolis, MN (WDAY TV) -- Officials at a Minneapolis High School suspended the captain of the football team this week after he sent what they call an inappropriate tweet.

Senior Reid Sagehorn is suspended from Rogers High School until April for a tweet he sent responding to a rumor on Twitter.

An anonymous post said he was kissing a teacher. The teen tweeted in response: "Actually, yes" -- which his father says was sarcasm.

The superintendent says what the teen *meant* doesn't matter.

"When you put something out there it can be taken many different ways, and it's like harassment, it's not what you meant it to be, it's how it's perceived by others," said Mark Bezek, superintendent.

In the wake of Sagehorn's suspension, supporters have taken to social media to call for the suspension to be overturned using the hashtag "free-reid." An online petition has already gather about three-thousand signatures.
