(AP) — A 19-year-old woman has been sentenced to one year in prison for driving drunk and causing a crash on the Spirit Lake Nation reservation that killed her younger sister.
The U.S. Attorney's office says Carolynn Bigtrack went off the road while driving around a curve on the night of April 21, 2010. She overcorrected and the car skidded sideways into an oncoming vehicle.
Bigtrack's 16-year-old sister, Mary Feather Bigtrack, died later in the day at a Devils Lake hospital. Two others were injured.
Carolynn Bigtrack pleaded guilty this April to involuntary manslaughter. She will have three years of supervised release after her prison sentence.
