NEW ULM, Minn. (AP) — Authorities are investigating a crash involving a New Ulm Police Department squad car that left a Mankato man dead and his mother injured.
Fifty-one-year-old Brian Bruce Wichmann was fatally injured Friday afternoon. His 82-year-old mother, Myra Ann Meyer, was seriously hurt.
The State Patrol says the woman was driving on a New Ulm street when she turned left into a driveway, and her car was struck by the squad car on the passenger side. The squad was driven by 31-year-old officer Mathew Rasmussen, who has seven years of police experience and 18 months with the New Ulm Police Department.
Wichmmann died at New Ulm Medical Center. Meyer was taken to the Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis. The officer was treated for what was believed to be a broken arm.
