A man has been arrested after allegedly engaging in a sword fight with another man in a rural Beltrami County (MN) home, leaving a 10-year-old child injured.
The man's identity had not yet been released as he has not been arraigned.
Beltrami County Sheriff Phil Hodapp says that early Tuesday morning, deputies were responding to a report of an assault with weapons at the home.
As officers were driving to the home, it was reported that swords were being used in the assault.
After officers arrived at the home, they found an intoxicated man attempting to leave the home on a bicycle. He was stopped and as deputies began investigating, they learned that the suspect had been drinking with the male homeowner when the suspect suddenly attacked the man with a sword.
The homeowner then grabbed another sword to defend himself and the two engaged in a sword fight.
A ten-year-old child was in the home at the time and witnessed the fight. The child was struck in the elbow by the suspect's sword and was treated at the North Country Regional Hospital and has since been released. The homeowner had minor injuries that didn't require treatment.
The suspect was booked into jail and charged with 2nd degree assault, 4th degree assault, felony child abuse and obstructing the legal process.
More information is expected to be released Wednesday.
