GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) — Officials say it will take several more weeks to remove a film of soot left behind after a fire in Ralph Engelstad Arena on the University of North Dakota campus early this month.

Spokesman Chris Semrau says that the cleanup is "an extensive process." The Sioux Shop is still closed this week. Merchandise in the store has been removed and will be replaced.

The July 3 fire began in a cluster of speakers above the arena ice. No structural damage occurred to the building but it was filled with smoke.

Semrau says no events at the arena had to be canceled, and officials expect the arena to be fully operational for the UND athletic season this fall.
