A 19-year-old Thief River Falls man was arrested Tuesday evening in Grand Forks after the Red Lake County Sheriff says he broke into a bar in Red Lake Falls and dragged the bar's owner behind his vehicle.
Red Lake County Sheriff Mitch Bernstein says Phillip David Trontvet broke into T&J's bar in Red Lake Falls at about 5:24 a.m. Saturday, July 9. The Sheriff's Office received the call, as did bar owner Jesse Adelman, who responded to the call.
As Adelman arrived at the bar, he confronted Trontvet, who was then able to flee in a vehicle. Adelman attempted to disable Trontvedt's vehicle and was dragged for a short distance, sustaining minor injuries.
Trontvet was able to drive a short distance, but then fled on foot north across Highway 32 and ran into the woods.
Officers searched the bar, collected several pieces of evidence and identified Trontvet as the suspect.
Authorities searched the general area, but weren't able to locate Trontvet.
On Tuesday evening, with assistance from the Pennington County Sheriff's Office, Minnesota BCA, North Dakota BCI and the Grand Forks Police Department, Trontvet was arrested at a motel in Grand Forks.
He's currently being held at the Grand Forks County jail and is facing criminal charges in North Dakota. He'll be brought back to Minnesota to face criminal charges in Red Lake and Pennington counties.
Trontvet could face charges of burglary, property damage and assault.
