Expect very hot and humid weather for this weekend and early next week. The National Weather Service says heat index values, or how hot it feels, will reach near 110 degrees for the Grand Forks area.

NWS says the very humid air will stream into eastern North Dakota and parts of west central and northwestern Minnesota through this weekend and the early part of next week. Temperatures will rise into the 90s during the afternoon hours, with heat index values higher than that.

Those temperatures have prompted an excessive heat watch to be issued for the area, in effect from Saturday afternoon through Tuesday evening.

Heat-related illnesses are possible for some groups including the elderly and the very young. You should drink plenty of water and stay out of the sun and in an air-conditioned room if possible. You should also check up on relatives and neighbors.
