BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — A tornado that hit LaMoure County Sunday afternoon measured as an EF-3 on the Enhanced Fujita scale.

KFGO radio reports that National Weather Service Meteorologist J.P. Martin traveled to the area from Bismarck to look over the damage.

Tractors were found in a field a quarter mile away and a pickup truck and a van were found half a mile away. Some livestock were badly injured and had to be killed.

He says that destruction at Victor and Beverly Weigel's (WY'-guhlz) farm west of Berlin was significant, with a house and most buildings destroyed.

Martin estimates wind speeds of between 135 and 165 miles per hour.

He says the damage is some of the worse he's seen in his 21 years with the weather service.
