BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — A planned meeting with NCAA officials next week about the University of North Dakota's Fighting Sioux nickname is likely to be postponed because of the death of North Dakota Senate Republican majority leader Bob Stenehjem.

Stenehjem was killed in a rollover accident in Alaska. State lawmakers and family members say his funeral is likely to be Monday. That's the same day as the NCAA meeting in Indianapolis.

House Republican majority leader Al Carlson says the meeting is likely to be postponed. Carlson and Stenehjem's brother, Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem, had been scheduled to attend.

Carlson says the meeting can be rescheduled.

The NCAA opposes the Fighting Sioux nickname, but a state law says UND has to keep it. Carlson wants to try to persuade the NCAA to change its stance.
