Franken: Delta Service Essential For Smaller Communities

Minnesota Senator Al Franken wants Senate negotiators to save the Essential Air Service funding that supports Delta flights in Thief River Falls, Devils Lake and many other small airports in the Midwest.

Minnesota Senator Al Franken wants Senate negotiators to save the Essential Air Service funding that supports Delta flights in Thief River Falls, Devils Lake and many other small airports in the Midwest.

Franken says he's very disturbed about Delta Airlines' recent indication to pull out of small.

Thief River Falls had the lowest occupancy rates on flights with just 12 percent.

But Franken told negotiators air service is essential for small communities.

"This really affects these communities, their tourism in terms of their economic development and creating jobs," Franken said.

Delta will end its service in 90 days and the city hopes another carrier will offer to take over the route.
