ND Opposition to EPA Carbon Dioxide Finding

Gov. John Hoeven doesn't like the federal Environmental Protection Agency's finding that carbon dioxide is a threat to public health.

Gov. John Hoeven doesn't like the federal Environmental Protection Agency's finding that carbon dioxide is a threat to public health.

The decision clears the way for the federal agency to regulate carbon dioxide emissions. The agency blames rising levels of the gas for global warming.

Hoeven says Congress should handle the issue instead of leaving it to a federal regulatory agency.

Hoeven and Public Service Commissioner Brian Kalk says carbon dioxide regulation will make energy much more expensive and drive manufacturing jobs out of the United States.

Congressman Earl Pomeroy says he'll fight the EPA's decision. He says unelected bureaucrats shouldn't be writing the emissions rules.
