An East Grand Forks man has been charged with terrorizing and assault on a police officer after police say he threatened staff at Romantix and then engaged in an altercation with a police officer early Sunday morning in Grand Forks.

Police say 20-year-old Matthew Gust was threatening staff at 102 S. 3rd St. (formerly Plain Brown Wrapper) at about 2:50 a.m. Sunday. Gust was reportedly armed with a knife.

After officers got a description of the suspect, they were able to locate Gust in the 300 block of Demers Avenue.

An officer stopped Gust for questioning and Gust became irate, according to police, and assaulted the officer. Gust was eventually subdued and taken into custody by officers using a taser.

The officer had minor cuts and scrapes and didn't need treatment. During the altercation, Gust didn't pull the knife officers later found on him.

Gust was transported to the Grand Forks County Correctional Center and was charged with terrorizing in connection to the Romantix incident, and also charged with preventing arrest, assault on a police officer and minor in consumption of alcohol.
