In an effort to curb prescription drug abuse the North Dakota Attorney General's office is putting drug disposal containers in police departments across the state.

Grand Forks police put up their container today in the lobby of the police department.

They say people can come drop their old prescription drugs in the container and the North Dakota bureau of criminal investigation will burn them to get rid of them.

The Police Department says they hope the new program will lower the number of people abusing prescription drugs.

Lt. Roger Pohlman: "North Dakota had a report of 15% of our youth abusing prescription drugs, so this is our way of trying to get control of that."

The are also disposal bins in the Fargo, Bismarck and Minot police departments.
