Longmire, ND Senate Veteran, Dies at 96

(WDAZ-TV) - A longtime North Dakota lawmaker has died. Originally from Tennessee, George Longmire lived for many years in Grand Forks.

(WDAZ-TV) - A longtime North Dakota lawmaker has died. Originally from Tennessee, George Longmire lived for many years in Grand Forks.

He served as a North Dakota state senator from 1957 until 1973. He was senate majority leader in 1969.

A lawyer, he was also chairman of the state Republican party during the 1950's. He served as an FBI agent during World War II.

Longmire died Sunday at a Chaska, MN, retirement home at the age of 96.

A memorial service is being held Sunday in Sorrento, Italy. A celebration of life service will be held at United Church of Christ, formerly the Federated Church in Grand Forks on Sunday, May 27. The time of the service will be announced later.
