Wacht is accused of killing and decapitating NDSU researcher Kurt Johnson around New Year's Eve 2010.

COOPERSTOWN, N.D. – A Cooperstown man accused of shooting a North Dakota State University researcher in the head and then decapitating him told a fellow partygoer in the days beforehand that he wanted to start a local white supremacy gang and needed to “make a statement” by blowing up a place or killing someone, a prosecutor said today.

COOPERSTOWN, N.D. — The first murder trial here in more than 80 years will feature a defendant with a machine-gun tattoo on his head and reported ties to a white supremacist gang, a victim whose severed head was found in the alleged killer’s basement and the oldest working courthouse in North Dakota.
