FARGO –- Tuesday was a record cold day up and down the Red River Valley. In Fargo, a daily record low temperature was set in the early morning hours when the mercury dipped to 12 degrees, the lowest for the date since the 15 degree temperature recorded on April 15, 1935, said Jim Kaiser, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service office in Grand Forks.

BISARCK –- The North Dakota Public Service Commission approved the design of a natural gas rate increase for Montana-Dakota Utilities on Wednesday in a 2-1 vote that had PSC Chairman Brian Kalk siding with the AARP in opposing how the increase was structured.
BISMARCK –- State utility regulators on Wednesday delayed action on a controversial plan to run about 200 miles of high-voltage power lines across part of western North Dakota – including the study area of an 1864 battle between American Indians and Army soldiers.
GRAND FORKS -- A reporter for the Herald was arrested early Wednesday on suspicion of drunken driving. Stephen James Lee, 60, of Arvilla, N.D., was booked into the jail for driving under the influence, a misdemeanor, after a test showed his blood alcohol concentration at nearly twice the legal limit, according to the Grand Forks County State’s Attorney’s Office.
