The safety of children on the Spirit Lake reservation has been in question for several years. The reservation has made national headlines, from CNN to the New York Times, as multiple children on the reservation have been killed or injured.
A major expansion is underway at Lake Region state college in Devils Lake -- the first in 35 years. The school broke ground Thursday on a 6 million dollar expansion and renovation of the 41-year-old Erlandson Center.
Anyone looking to visit the Lake Region can now see all that Devils Lake has to offer, while in the comfort of their own homes. The Devils Lake Chamber of Commerce launched a video series to show off local businesses, services and attractions throughout the region.
You may not see them but there are dozens of homeless veterans here in North Dakota, and with winter approaching, it's important they stay warm. A veteran's group in Devils Lake aimed to collect a few clothing items to bring to homeless vets, but their donation drive exceeded their wildest expectations.
Spirit Lake Tribal Members gathered Friday for yet another recall election, the third on the reservation this year. Tribal Secretary Nancy Greene-Robertson's seat on the tribal council was at stake this time.
Farmers in the valley are busy Friday, taking advantage of a break between moisture. They say rain and snow forecast for this weekend will keep them out of the fields, once again delaying the fall harvest.
