Police and firefighters in Devils Lake are competing this week, to see who can bring in more blood donors for area hospitals. The first annual "battle of the badges" blood drive kicked off Wednesday in Devils Lake.
North Dakota city, county and state employees competed today to see which department could give the most blood. The Annual Holiday Blood Drive at the Grand Forks County Office Building brings in about 60 donors each year.
At this time of year people are usually busy with the holidays and traveling, and they often don't think about donating blood. Because of that there is sometimes a greater need for blood during the winter.
