One of the hardest hit towns in northeastern North Dakota is the small town of Crystal, which is just north of Grafton. Residents are struggling to keep water out of their basements and some businesses are surrounded by water.
The rain keeps falling as residents of Crystal, North Dakota battle the worst flood they've seen since 2004. The situation in Crystal has become so dire that Mayor Larry McCullum ordered a voluntary evacuation for those who live on the west side of the town.
Sugar beet growers along the Red River Valley are having a sweet harvest this year. The Minn-Dak Farmers Cooperative and American Crystal Sugar report the sugar content in beets is up nearly 20 percent.
CRYSTAL, Minn. (AP) — A man and a woman were arrested Wednesday and authorities searched their home after police were told that an infant might have died there under suspicious circumstances years ago.
The Highway Patrol says, at 7:45 a.m., 54-year-old Gary Barclay was driving his 2002 Chevy pickup south on Pembina County road 12 one mile south of North Dakota Highway 66 southwest of Crystal when he lost control of the pickup.
Three people are hurt after a single train car derailed south of Crystal, North Dakota this afternoon.
