Sen. Kent Conrad announced Tuesday he won't seek re-election next year, becoming the last of North Dakota's three long-serving Democrats in Congress to bid farewell to the Capitol and busting the 2012 Senate race wide open.
North Dakota Democrats said Wednesday they believed Republican Gov. Jack Dalrymple's proposed income tax cut was misguided, and said they were disappointed the new governor didn't suggest an expansion of a health insurance program that benefits children from low-income families.
In bits and pieces, legislative Democrats are beginning to lay out their plans for attacking Minnesota's nearly $1 billion budget deficit.
