FARGO –- Tuesday was a record cold day up and down the Red River Valley. In Fargo, a daily record low temperature was set in the early morning hours when the mercury dipped to 12 degrees, the lowest for the date since the 15 degree temperature recorded on April 15, 1935, said Jim Kaiser, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service office in Grand Forks.
GRAND FORKS –- Matt Heisler was a jokester, a cutup, a tease. No one, especially those he cared about most, were spared. Faking an empty gas tank, he made little sister Casey push his car up the driveway. Not even Grandma was immune, as he heckled her about not putting enough miles on her treadmill.
GRAND FORKS -- After the pomp and circumstance of last year’s event announcing North Dakota had been designated one of national six test sites for unmanned aerial systems, the real work is set to begin.
GRAND FORKS -- A reporter for the Herald was arrested early Wednesday on suspicion of drunken driving. Stephen James Lee, 60, of Arvilla, N.D., was booked into the jail for driving under the influence, a misdemeanor, after a test showed his blood alcohol concentration at nearly twice the legal limit, according to the Grand Forks County State’s Attorney’s Office.
Serge Gambucci has been selected to five halls of fame. But his lasting legacy will be a building. The Sergio Gambucci Arena was dedicated in November, 2004. The ice hockey facility is attached to Purpur Arena, which is named after another local hockey legend, Cliff “Fido” Purpur.
GRAND FORKS -- Fourteen newcomers and seven incumbents have filed for seven openings on the Grand Forks School Board. Several candidates said they want the school district to be more fiscally responsible and communicate better with the public, restoring public trust. Others said they want to keep quality teachers in the district.

GRAND FORKS -- A Grand Forks man avoided what could have been years more in prison Monday at his sentencing over new crimes and violating probation for old ones, arguing his life is changed, but a prosecutor said Brandon Allen Burket still is blaming his victim.
