Hot spots are still smoking from a field after a grass fire consumed nearly 160 acres near Hawley. About half a dozen agencies battled the blaze this afternoon, barely stopping it before it reached a farmstead.
(WDAZ-TV) - The Polk County Sheriff's Department says several grass fires near Union Lake appear to be arson.
Three different fire departments battled the blazes in several different locations for several hours.
GRAND FORKS (WDAZ-TV) - Authorities across North Dakota are warning people to take extra caution when burning outdoors. Firefighters have already had their hands full putting out small grass fires popping up around the state.
The very dry spring could mean some long hours for those that fight grass fires. Rural volunteer firefighters do that job. They are hoping rain, and a very cautious puplic will keep their work to a minium.
