Minnesota's wolf season has closed more than a month early. The season closed over the weekend after hunters killed a total of 237 wolves, 17 more than the target harvest set by the Department of Natural Resources.
Minnesota hunters bagged fewer deer this year. Through the beginning of December, firearms hunters harvested 144,000 deer, a 6 percent drop from 2012. Preliminary numbers for the late season in southeastern Minnesota show hunters harvested about 600 fewer deer than last year.
The preliminary numbers are in, and Minnesota hunters have killed 6 percent fewer deer through the second weekend of this year’s firearms deer season than during the same time last year, the Department of Natural Resources reported Wednesday.
Minnesota hunters have killed at least 45 wolves since Saturday when the state opened its second wolf season since the animals came off the endangered list. The Department of Natural Resources says hunters registered 30 wolves in the northwest zone and 15 wolves in the northeast zone as of Monday morning.
It's that time of year again. Camo is replaced by blaze orange. The deer gun season opens Friday in North Dakota. 40,000 fewer licenses were granted this year. Professional meat processor Tim Skague says there will be a trickle down effect.
