The location of an oil drilling waste pit has a number of people in Mountrail County and the state Health Department concerned. A pit, dug to hold dry waste from the drilling process, was recently constructed within a half mile of a well that supplies water to the town of Ross.
A proposed Devils Lake oil refinery that would handle 20,000 barrels a day and bring 50 to 100 jobs is being met with some concerns in the Lake Region. The company, American Energy Holdings is hoping to build the refinery within the next two years. But city leaders say that may not be a realistic goal.
A spill detected Sunday morning released nearly 30,000 gallons of saltwater and 20 barrels of oil near a tributary of the Little Missouri River in Billings County, according to an official with the North Dakota Department of Health.
