DEVILS LAKE, ND (WDAZ-TV) - The west-end pump on Devils Lake is pumping water off the lake sooner than ever before. But there's not as much water rushing through the outlet as there could be. The west-end outlet may be operational, but it's only pumping at half-capacity.
The west-end Devils Lake pumps were shut down completely on Tuesday. The decision was made to help alleviate downstream flooding after heavy rains caused the Army Corps of Engineers to increase flows out of Lake Ashtabula into the Sheyenne River.
Plans for an east-end outlet to take water off of Devils Lake picked up more downstream support Wednesday. At a meeting in Valley City, the Barnes County Water District said it would support the current east-end outlet plan
