Jeff Niemann carried a no-hitter into the seventh inning and Ben Zobrist hit a two-run homer to give him 10 RBIs for the day as Tampa Bay swept a day-night doubleheader with a 6-1 victory over the Minnesota Twins on Thursday.
Delmon Young pulled himself out of the lineup against Tampa Bay on Wednesday after being unable to get warmed up on the chilly night and the Minnesota Twins started the game with just one healthy bench player.
The Twins waste a quality start by Carl Pavano, who pitched eight scoreless innings. Meanwhile, catcher Joe Mauer goes to the 15-day disabled list. Mauer will be checked by a Baltimore doctor for leg weakness.
Joe Nathan pitched a perfect inning for Minnesota in the closer's second appearance in his comeback from major elbow surgery, and the Twins beat an eager Manny Ramirez and the Tampa Bay Rays 5-4 on Friday.
