Lake Region officials are hopeful that after two decades there won't be any more flood damaged roads to repair in the Lake Region. Highways in the area have been raised and re-raised but those efforts are finally starting to wind down.
Road and street crews have been out since last night preparing for this weekend's expected snowfall. Officials are hoping streets won't be as slippery as they were last week when Grand Forks had roughly two inches of snow. This time around forecasters are expecting double that amount.
The intersection of Gateway Drive and North Columbia Road will be closed from 9 p.m. tonight until 6 am Wednesday so crews can reinforce concrete joints at the intersection. Gateway will be reduced to one lane in each direction.
Roads in Grand Forks are beginning to buckle under the summer heat. Concrete is breaking apart on several roads and even part of the bike path. At least five areas need emeregency repairs. Some have been completed, but others are still being worked on.
The North Dakota Department of Transportation (NDDOT) in partnership with the North Dakota Highway Patrol (NDHP) has CLOSED all of I-29 in the state due to blowing snow resulting in near zero visibility.

This portion of the Interstate will remain closed until further notice.
This time of year is one of the worst times for roads around the area. The freezing and thawing make for a few more bumps in the road. Those bumps, potholes and dips are starting to create problems on Grand Forks city streets.
