A man opened fire inside the Connecticut elementary school where his mother worked Friday, killing 26 people, including 18 children, and forcing students to cower in classrooms and then flee with the help of teachers and police.
Of the more than 3,000 people honoring officer Decker today 2,300 were officers from across the nation including Grand Forks. They all said they had to be there for the family. Decker was remembered as an officer who truly loved serving and protecting, and who paid the ultimate price doing so.
A 31-year-old Cold Spring police officer who was known as a hometown boy and the department jokester will be laid to rest today. Officer Tom Decker was shot and killed Thursday in the line of duty. About 3,200 people came out for a day of memories, tears, love and lingering questions.
The man accused of killing an officer in Cold Spring, Minnesota is a free man. He was released from jail shortly before noon today. Investigators haven't found enough evidence to charge 34-year-old Ryan Michael Larson in the shooting death of Officer Tom Decker.
