Grand Forks, ND – Xcel Energy awarded the Community Violence Intervention Center (CVIC) a $10,000 grant to support self-sufficiency services for victims of violence. “Individuals trying to end the violence in their life are not only leaving a relationship, they are leaving a roof over their head and financial security for their children,” CVIC Executive Director Kristi Hall-Jiran said.
The Minneapolis utility says it will use power from three large wind farms in Minnesota and North Dakota. It will be Xcel's single largest increase in wind generation in the Upper Midwest and will boost its wind capacity by 33 percent.
All power is back on to affected customers in southern Grand Forks, Xcel Energy spokeswoman Bonnie Lund says. Around 2,000 customers were affected by the outage that was first reported at around 6:30 p.m.
About 5,660 Xcel Energy customers were without power for 12 hours by the time service was ultimately restored early this morning. All customers affected by a widespread outage Saturday were back online by 1:45 a.m., according to a statement from Xcel.
