Gem of the Week: Chinese students travel to UND music camp
GRAND FORKS, ND (WDAZ-TV) - This week’s gems come from more than 6,000 miles away.
More than 60 Chinese students are visiting the University of North Dakota today for a pretty cool reason - international music camp.
It all started with an idea from a UND professor. The students will be getting coaching from professors over the next couple of days and will be practicing with UND students.
For most of them, this is their first time in the United States and only about a quarter of them speak English.
"Music is a global language and even though students from different countries speak different languages they can still communicate through music,” said Guanlu Guan, Peking University band conductor.
The camp will culminate in a concert Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. at the Chester Fritz Auditorium.
