GRAND FORKS, ND (WDAZ-TV) - Stressed pets.

Summer storms may be impacting our animals more than we think.

A local vet tech has some tips to calm our pets without jeopardizing their health.

If your dog or cat is pacing, hiding, panting, whining or howling, or bolting out of the house; that's a sign of stress.

During severe weather, experts recommend putting them in a safe space, free from items that can fall, and away from things that could cause injury.

While this may be painful for dog owners, a kennel or crate could be the best place during those scary storms.

While many loving owners may want to use doggie downers to calm their pets, Melcer recommends trying other methods first.

If you're concerned about your pet's anxiety, consult with your vet.
