Man clinging to log in Red River arrested on felony warrant

Police escort Carlos Trevino, 40, to a waiting patrol car after he was retrieved from the Red River on Wednesday afternoon.

Fargo, ND - A man who prompted a brief rescue operation in the Red River on Wednesday afternoon was arrested on the Fargo side of the river on a felony arrest warrant issued in Minnesota.

Fargo police received a call about 3 p.m. reporting that the man was clinging to a log in the river near the Fargo side and was unwilling to come out of the river, Lt. Joel Vettel said.

Rescue boats entered the water before the man was urged to swim to shore on the North Dakota side, Vettel said.

Vettel said Fargo police arrested Carlos Trevino, 40, of Moorhead, on the Minnesota arrest warrant.

An arrest warrant was issued for Trevino on May 29 in Clay County District Court for a probation violation on a 2011 conviction for domestic assault and fourth-degree assault of a police officer, according to online court records.

Vettel said Trevino was taken to the Cass County Jail and may face additional charges.
