Today is a big day!

It's the eighth annual Giving Hearts Day!

You can go to ImpactGiveBack.Org and donate to your favorite local charity.

Dakota Medical Foundation and community donors will match every $10 or more donations.

Nearly 300 groups are participating, including Fargo's Emergency Food Pantry.

They say it's a great day to raise awareness about their work.

Last year the pantry fed more than 47,000 people-- a 58 percent increase from last year.

Executive Director Pat Claus is even fasting for 48 hours to show the importance of this day.

“But I don't know how many people know what it is not to eat for a day, or two days,” Claus said. “So to bring attention to that and the mission we have here at the pantry, I decided that I would periodically do this as just a way to express why we're here and what we do.”

Claus says any money raised is appreciated.

Ideally, Claus says it would be nice to raise a chunk of money to go to paying electric, insurance and gas bills.
