GRAND FORKS, ND (WDAZ)—One local mom is hoping to turn her grief into relief for other parents.

One local mom is hoping to turn her grief into relief for other parents.

WDAZ's Kenneth Chase tells us how she hopes to help people in their darkest days.

"It's never going to end,” said Julie Moen.

Julie Moen's 10-year-old son Mason died a year-and a half ago in a snowmobile accident—leaving behind a family broken with grief.

"I'm going to grieve for the rest of my life for my son. Because I know that all these other parents are too,” said Moen.

Moen says she tried joining support groups in Grand Forks—but many only meet once each month.

Loneliness is what many people like Moen are left with, even though they may be surrounded by family.

"Their families don't even talk to them because people feel uncomfortable and they don't know how to approach us,” said Moen.

Moen started a Facebook group called ‘Grieving Mothers,’ a place where parents can share the stories of their children.

Moen’s betting on faith to get her through, and she wants to do the same for other moms as well.

"What I'm doing is a biblical bible study and it's for the loss of a child. I don't know how people feel about religion but I know it helped me,” said Moen.

The group will meet each week and share stories of their lost children.

"If there's a child's birthday or a child's angelversary or anything we want to do balloon releases to celebrate or have a candle light prayer or just to have our candles lit to have our children's presence with us,” said Moen.

A local mom hoping to bring peace to people struggling every day.

"Their children would want them to enjoy their life. My son wouldn't want me to be sad crying every day. He wants me to be a mom and take care of his brothers. And do what I need to do,” said Moen.

If you want to go to the Grieving Mothers Support Group the first meeting is next Friday at 7:30 pm at Pasle Ballet School.
