Williston man dies in car accident north of Williston
WILLISTON -- A Williston man died Thursday following a car accident three miles north of Williston.
Robert Barkie, 87, was driving a 2003 Honda Odyssey westbound on 60th Street Northwest and proceeded to cross the north bound lanes of US Highway 2.
Matthew A. Williams, 24, of Moultire, Georgia, was driving a 2003 Peterbilt semi heading northbound on US Highway 2 when he struck Barkie's car on the drivers side, according to the North Dakota Highway Patrol press release.
The collision caused the Honda to spin counter-clockwise and enter the median. The car eventually came to a rest upright, facing east.
The semi continued north and came to a rest upright on the west shoulder of the north bound lanes, facing north.
Barkie was taken to St. Alexius Hospital in Williston where he was pronounced deceased, according to the release.
Williams recieved no injuries, the release said.
The accident occurred around 12:45 p.m.
The accident remains under investigation by the North Dakota Highway Patrol. No charges have been filed at this time.
