Fashion show raises money to increase literacy in Ethiopia
GRAND FORKS, N.D.—People across the valley are spreading the gift of education and literacy across the world.
Sunday in Grand Forks, a fashion show and auction was held to help raise money for the program Ethiopia Reads.
The money will go towards building libraries and gathering print books for children in Ethiopia.
Eighty-two different languages are spoken in the country, which makes it difficult for children to learn how to read.
"Now we know that children learn to read best in their own language. So we are really working hard to send books," said Ann Porter, event organizer.
Sunday's event at the All Seasons Garden Center was geared towards distributing new books in two of the most popular Ethiopian languages.
