GOVERNMENT SHUTDOWN ENDS WITH TRUMP SIGNATURE
The government is back open this morning after President Trump signed the budget bill into law.
The government was shut down since midnight eastern time. The Senate passed a bill just after 1:00 eastern time this morning, after a delay due to protests from Senator Rand Paul, who is opposed to raising the federal debt limit. The House signed off on the bill just after 4:00 eastern time this morning.
Throughout the day Thursday, Republicans and Democrats in Congress remained at odds over the deal that would boost spending on military and domestic priorities and increase the nation's debt limit, but leave unaddressed the controversial status of young immigrants known as Dreamers.
The two-year budget deal would lift caps on defense and non-defense spending by $300 billion over two years. This short-term bill now provides federal funding through March 23rd, the deadline for legislators to pass another extension.
