FARGO—For the first time in history, the Regional National Trial Competition was held in Fargo.

Seventy-five law students from seven neighboring states competed at the Cass County Courthouse Saturday and Sunday.

Students acted as lawyers to defend, or prosecute, in a mock trial.

More than 400 volunteers helped with the competition, including a few North Dakota federal judges and all members of the North Dakota Supreme Court.

Students said the most challenging part was staying focused for hours at a time.

"You have to be listening to every single word your opposing counsel is saying, if not you're going to miss something, and if it's missed, it's done and you cannot object after the fact," said Maggie Spezzano, Student.

The winner from Saturday will move on to the national trial held in Texas in April.
