POLICE STANDOFF ENDS WITH SUSPECT'S DEATH
A man is dead and at least three officers are on paid administrative leave after a standoff and shooting in West Fargo.
People living in the area were given the all-clear late last night after being told to shelter in place. Police said a West Fargo officer tried to pull a man over last night, but the man led officers on a high-speed pursuit. The suspect car rammed a police car and eventually stopped in a driveway on 11th Street West near Westside Elementary School. Police said the suspect refused to follow their commands. Red River SWAT was called in, and took over the negotiations.
"During those negotiations, the suspect exited his vehicle and posed an imminent threat to those officers. At that point, the officers engaged the suspect and shots were fired," West Fargo Police Chief Heith Janke said.
The suspect was taken to Sanford Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. His name is not being released until family is notified. No officers were hurt.
MAN WANTED FOR SEX TRAFFICKING ARRESTED IN BISMARCK
A man who's been wanted on sex trafficking charges for about a year and half is now behind bars after police found him in Bismarck.
Cory Oxford, 26, is facing charges of "rape" and "transportation of minors for prohibited sexual conduct." Authorites in Franklin County, Arkansas put out a warrant for his arrest back in July of 2016. About two weeks ago, U.S. Marshals got a tip pointing them to Bismarck. They found Oxford in an apartment, where he'd been living with a woman for several months. The U.S. Marshals service said it wants to remind criminals that North Dakota is not a good place to hide. It's a small community with well-connected law enforcement agencies.
