FARGO—Runners woke up early Saturday morning for the inaugural "Thunder Dash" 5K.

More than 200 people from the area laced up their shoes for a 5K, 10K and Kids Run.

The race started at the Sanford Athletic Complex going into Moorhead and back.

All proceeds from the run are going to the Special Olympics of North Dakota.

Runners say this race helps athletes get ready for the big marathon in May.

"When you're training for an event like a marathon or half-marathon, 10 miles is a really good distance and maybe some people who are going to be running the 5K or 10K at the Fargo marathon, this 5K is kind of a tune-up," said Bill Schalow, Race Director.

Organizers say they're already planning for another Thunder Dash next year.
