The Douglas County Sheriff's Office is asking for assistance finding a driver who struck and injured a 91-year-old man in Brandon on Tuesday, Jan. 30.
According to a media release, at 9:53 p.m., the sheriff's office received a call of an elderly man in the roadway and bleeding from the head. The caller had swerved to avoid the man.
Deputies arrived and found the victim lying on South Central Avenue. He had numerous injuries consistent with being struck by a vehicle.
The man was taken to Douglas County Hospital and treated for his injuries. He told deputies he had left the Brandon Assisted Living Facility and was walking when he fell in the roadway. He stated he was then hit by a vehicle.
The sheriff's office is searching for a vehicle that was in the area at the time of the incident. It is described as a clean, newer white sedan, possibly a Chevrolet Malibu or similar body style.
The man remains hospitalized and the extent of his injuries is not known.
The Brandon First Responders and North Ambulance assisted the sheriff's office.
The victim's name will be released pending family notification.
