Mysterious accident sends basketball player to the hospital
DEVILS LAKE, ND (WDAZ)--An area college basketball player is in recovery on Monday night, after a mysterious accident sent him to the hospital.
We believe the player is still in the hospital, this as another student is under arrest and the Narcotics Task Force has been called in to help the investigation.
Devils Lake Police say they’re investigating all avenues, but they say they don’t know what happened before dawn on Saturday morning, as emergency responders headed to Lake Region State College to treat Royals Point Guard, Jordan Bolton.
"We're not sure of the full details of what had actually led to the injury,” said Devils Lake Police Department Detective Sue Schwab.
But that night -- authorities arrested another student after interviewing several staff and classmates.
19-year old Joshua Guerra will be charged with possession of a controlled substance -- and minor in possession of alcohol--but it's unclear if his arrest is related to Bolton's accident.
The Lake Region Task Force -- the area's narcotics unit -- is now working on the investigation.
"Right now we're in the process of investigation. So I can't make a determination at this point if that same individual would be in any way part of the other case at this point,” said Schwab.
Coaches refused to speak to WDAZ on Monday afternoon.
Bolton's family says, “He is alert and receiving the best care in hopes of the best possible outcome.”
