Moorhead's Horizon Middle School goes on lockdown for about 10 minutes

MOORHEAD – Horizon Middle School was on lockdown briefly this afternoon, though the reason for the school-wide security measure is unclear. About 10 minutes after the initial text alert, a second alert from the school district said the lockdown has ended.

Law enforcement said and video surveillance showed no intruder threat existed, the second text alert said.

The students are safe to remain in school, the second alert said.

The initial text message sent to parents of Horizon students a few minutes after noon read:

“Horizon Middle School is currently in a lockdown. Students are safe. More details will be released when available. Parents are asked not to come to school.”

An employee in the district’s main office said that they knew there was a lockdown at the school “but we don’t know the status.”
