UND president gets 1-year contract

UND President Robert Kelley has had his contract extended one year by the State Board of Higher Education.

At a recent SBHE meeting, Interim Chancellor Larry Skogen recommended the extension because his own contract will expire in 2015.

“I’m here for one more year, so I thought to provide some continuity to the university system,” he said. “What I would do is make sure that all the contracts ran to at least 2016, so if I leave in 2015 and you have a new chancellor that comes in ... you’ll at least have the continuity of the presidents extended to 2016,” Skogen said.

Kelley will now serve as president until June 30, 2016. Presidential salaries will be addressed at a later SBHE meeting.

Contract extensions to 2016 were also granted to the presidents at Dickinson State University, Mayville State University, North Dakota State University, North Dakota State College of Science and Williston State College.

Some presidents weren’t given extensions because they are in interim positions or still in initial contracts, which are three years long.
